Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has rescheduled his meeting with district presidents and chairmen for voter list verification. Initially planned for March 15, the meeting will now take place virtually on March 16. The postponement comes after the core committee meetings in various districts were also delayed, leading to speculation within the party ranks.
The decision follows party supremo Mamata Banerjee’s strong warning about ‘fake voters’ in the state. During a Netaji Indoor Stadium meeting, she urged party workers to ensure transparency in voter rolls. In response, TMC leaders had convened a meeting last Thursday to formulate district-based organizational committees for quick verification of the voter list. However, this initiative was abruptly put on hold overnight.
According to sources, Abhishek Banerjee was not fully informed about the voter list committee formation process. Upon learning about the developments, he instructed party members to temporarily halt the plan. This led to confusion and internal discussions within TMC, eventually resulting in the postponement of the inaugural meeting.
While the party has not officially cited any reason for the rescheduling, insiders suggest that a key event on March 15 influenced the change. To avoid overlapping priorities, the leadership opted to shift the meeting to Sunday, March 16. The meeting, now virtual, will focus on voter list verification and related organizational strategies.
This sudden rescheduling has sparked discussions within the party, as voter list verification is a crucial step ahead of upcoming elections. The postponement also highlights internal deliberations within TMC leadership over the process and implementation strategies.
